Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Hall has been run by a registered charity since 2016 - The Royal Sutton Coldfield Community Town Hall Trust.

With a small operations staff team complimented by volunteer support, as an entertainment venue and community hub, we house touring shows, comedy, community theatre, weddings and corporate events throughout the year, as well as a popular annual pantomime.

About the festival

Sutton Coldfield Literary Arts Festival is the inaugural literary arts celebration at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall - a free, community-focused weekend of talks, readings, workshops and performances exploring words, creativity and community.

The role

We are looking for enthusiastic and prepared interviewers to lead on-stage conversations with selected authors and speakers across the festival weekend. This is a voluntary role to be part of something special in Sutton Coldfield.

What's involved

  • Familiarising yourself with the author’s session topic in advance

  • Preparing a set of questions in collaboration with the speaker and the festival team

  • Leading an engaging on-stage conversation of approximately 30 - 45 minutes

  • Facilitating audience Q&A at the end of the session

  • Attending a brief pre-session check in with your speaker on the day

What we're looking for

  • Confident and warm communicator

  • Curious and well prepared

  • Comfortable in front of a live audience

  • Respectful of the speaker's work and intentions for their session

  • Reliable and available on the agreed festival date

Experience in journalism, podcasting, academia or performance is welcome but not essential. What matters most is preparation, curiosity and the ability to hold a good conversation.
