Sustainability at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall

As custodians of a historic venue, our commitment to the future runs deeper than compliance. We want this building’s history, character, and role in this community to outlast all of us. That means taking sustainability seriously, not just as an organisation, but as a heritage site with a responsibility to future generations.

Read on to find out how.

Restoring what's already here

Before we can think about the future, we have to protect the present.

Phase one of our restoration project is nearly complete, which involved restoring our roof. This was no no small undertaking given the years of weathering and use that this building has seen, and we're incredibly proud of the progress made. A building that is properly cared for is a building that lasts, and lasting is the most sustainable thing we can do.

This is the first chapter of a longer ambition. Our goal is to restore, improve and modernise Sutton Coldfield Town Hall into a truly dynamic, accessible and inclusive destination that serves this town and the wider region for generations to come. Sustainability is at the heart of this mission.

What we're doing day to day

Alongside the restoration, we're making practical changes to how we operate:

At the bar we've replaced single-use plastic cups with reusable polycarbonate cups across all our events. Less waste, same great night.

With tickets we're encouraging all guests to book online and switch to e-tickets, reducing the amount of paper used at every show.

Getting here a new path linking Sutton Coldfield Town Hall directly to Sutton Coldfield Train Station is making it easier than ever to arrive on foot or by rail. We'd love to see more of you leaving the car at home.

We're just getting started

We're proud of the steps we've taken, but we know there's more to do. We're actively exploring new initiatives and working with organisations who share our vision for a greener venue. If you're one of them, we'd love to hear from you.

How you can help

Sustainability here is a shared endeavour. Choosing to travel by train or on foot, switching to e-tickets, or donating to the Town Hall all make a genuine difference to our ability to keep this place going greenly.

Sutton Coldfield Town Hall is operated entirely by The Royal Sutton Coldfield Community Town Hall Trust, a registered charity (1165712). Every donation, friendship or sponsorship directly supports our mission to care for this space and ensure it continues to serve as a platform for entertainment, education and community life for everyone.
