Heritage Day 2025: Exploring the Town Hall’s Past, Present and Future

As part of the Sutton Coldfield Heritage Network, Sutton Coldfield Town Hall welcomed the public to Heritage Day. With access-all-areas tours, local theatre performances, film screenings, and business exhibition stalls, the event showcased the Town Hall's vibrant history, current work, and future plans.

Heritage Day is an annual celebration of all that the town has to offer, and a chance for local organisations to present their wonderful work. This year, the overarching theme was ‘Architecture’, so we created a vision board that explored the Town Hall’s Redevelopment Plans. Alongside Cooper-Whyte Conservation Ltd, we welcomed guests to learn more about the building’s ongoing roof restoration work. We also gave guests a unique opportunity to be part of the Town Hall’s legacy and future-proofing by donating £10 to have their name painted onto one of our new roof slates.

In the Crush Hall, Sutton Coldfield Movie Makers put together a variety of Sutton-based films from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. The films paid wonderful homage to the town's recent history and its development over the past 70+ years. Guests enjoyed spotting iconic locations or buildings that they recognised.

Performances by Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre Company, Sutton Coldfield Musical Youth Theatre, CLOC Musical Theatre, and Tudor Musical Comedy Society lit up the Town Hall's stage. Each performance featured snippets from productions that will take place at the Town Hall over the coming months. Audiences thoroughly enjoyed the town's talent. Performances included: Grease, My Fair Lady, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Wizard of Oz.

Paul Lumsden led sold-out tours of the Town Hall, inviting guests to uncover the building’s secrets. Exploring backstage areas, the clock tower, and even the roof, Paul wowed guests with his engaging and insightful tours. We’d like to extend our gratitude to both Paul Lumsden and Paula Lumsden for supporting the Town Hall team with the execution of a hugely successful Heritage Day.

In our business exhibition room, other local organisations, including Apollo, Sutton Coldfield Voices Choir, and Highbury Theatre’s historical figures, greeted the public.

It was brilliant to see so many Suttonians come through our doors to support their local arts hub. As a charity, the continued running and development of the Town Hall relies on the generosity of donations. We were overwhelmed with the support that the local people showed throughout the day, and we are so proud to work with the local organisations and individuals of Sutton Coldfield.

See you at Heritage Day 2026!
