Apache Indian is a trailblazer who changed the game with his ground-breaking fusion of reggae, dancehall, and Indian music. With over 35 years of experience and countless iconic hits later, he is set to take the stage at the Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Hall!
Hailing from Birmingham, Steven Kapur aka Multi-Platinum Artist Apache Indian, was born into a Hindu/Punjabi family, growing up as a child listening to traditional Indian songs and movies at home.
As Apache got to his teenage years, he fell in love with the Reggae Sound and got involved with the Birmingham sound system culture. His journey began with the release of the ground-breaking ‘Movie Over India’, a true genre-defining song in 1989 which Apache released himself on his own label.
He was quickly picked up by the biggest reggae distributor in the country, Jet Star. They took ‘Movie over India’ to number 1 in the Reggae Charts followed by ‘Chokthere’ & ‘Don Rajah’ which both hit the top spot too. Apache was making his mark and also gained him the nickname ‘Don Rajah’.
In 1992, Apache was signed to Island Records. Apache was sent straight to Kingston, Jamaica to start recording with Sly & Robbie at Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Studio.
Apache’s first album, ‘No Reservations’ was released in 1992 and featured Artists including Maxi Priest & Frankie Paul. The first single taken off the album was, ‘Arranged Marriage’ which shot up to number 16 in the national UK charts. Apache became the first British Asian Artist combining Asian & Reggae sounds reflecting the multi-culture of Birmingham.
After a string of chart hits off the first album, Island Records released Apache’s EP, ‘Nuff Vibes’ in 1993 which featured the BIG Smash hit ‘Boomshackalak’, this song went into the charts and topped at number 5 in the UK and was a massive hit across the globe. ‘Boomshackalak’ has now been featured in 9 Hollywood Movies including, ‘Dumb & Dumber 1 & 2’ & ‘Scooby Doo 2’ & over 150 international TV commercials.
“I share my life, views, prayers and visions through my music. I include the language and sounds that I grew up with in Birmingham without any reservations. I celebrate culture and multi-culture and life itself every day and spread love with music. I always give thanks for the journey that music has taken me on, around the globe eight times over, working with artists from different genres and generations.” - Apache Indian
