Cathartic and personal - his poetry navigates through the ups and downs of being a young neurodivergent man of the global majority. Vig takes particular interest in identity and belonging, inspiring and impacting community, challenging cultural stereotypes, race and taboo topics.
Vignesh Venkataramaiah, AKA Vigspoetry, is a twenty-four year old slam-winning spoken word poet, host, model, script and screenwriter, workshop facilitator, amateur actor, tutor and multidisciplinary freelancer. He has won Birmingham’s Run Your Mouth Winners’ Slam, the London Genesis Poetry Slam, featured in the Roundhouse London heats and was runner up at One Mic Stand Manchester. Vig is also the regional producer and host of spoken-word music fusion event Poets Palace Birmingham, is a part of the Birmingham Poetry Network and Good Company Brum.
He went viral on the National American poetry platform ‘Voices In Power’, amassing 50,000 views and counting, and hasn’t looked back since - headlining poetry nights, cultural events, featuring at art exhibitions, award ceremonies and literature festivals across the Midlands and London, as well as placements on Brum Radio, New Style Radio, Switch Radio and the BBC. Vig has work published in Punch Records’ Anthology ‘Enter West’ and a poem displayed in ‘The Zephaniah Forest’ in memory of the great Benjamin Zephaniah. He has performed at Hay Festival, Gunnersbury Park Museum, Sofar Sounds, We Out Here Festival and was part of the prestigious ‘Words A Stage’ cohort for 2025 with Apples and Snakes. Vig pours into championing marginalised voices, and was selected as a part of the ‘Reshaping Governance’ Programme at New Arts Exchange.
