Wheelchair Access

Sutton Coldfield Town Hall has two principal entrances both of which are wheelchair accessible on flat ground with no steps. There is also a lay-by directly outside of the main entrance for easy drop-offs.

Inside the Main Auditorium, on seated shows, we have seating on both ground and elevated levels shown on the event seating plan as “Stalls” (on the ground) and “Tier” (up steps). Seats on Row H are coloured white and blue as they are designated wheelchair friendly. For each wheelchair we will remove two seats to comfortably accommodate the wheelchair user.

If you require any additional assistance on the night, just speak to a member of the Front of House team who will look after you.

Standing & Queuing

Sutton Coldfield Town Hall has seating on all levels of the theatre and in the Sir Doug Ellis Bar. We endeavour to open auditorium doors an hour before the start time of each performance (there will be times when this isn’t possible, but staff on the evening can update you).

You can pre-order your tickets to either display on your phone or bring a printed copy to avoid pre-show queues. Additionally, at the interval, you can pre-order drinks and snacks to avoid queuing.

If your companion/carer cannot leave you, these can be brought to you – just speak to a member of staff and they will accommodate.

Short Distances

You can be dropped off directly outside our Main Entrance and Bedford Suite entrances. With the exception of the “tiered” seating, Sutton Coldfield Town Hall is set on one level for members of the public allowing easy access to all areas of the building.

There are six pay and display car parks in close proximity to the Town Hall.  Please check the pay and display information boards when you park to check your ticket validity, as the car parks are monitored by Parking Enforcement Officers.

Parking for blue badge holders is available though limited on the road by Kind Edwards Square or just outside the neighbouring apartments. There are a number of marked spaces on the road by King Edwards Square which are free after 6pm.

There is a small drop-off point outside the Town Hall main entrance.  Please take care when crossing the roads from the car parks to the Town Hall.

Access to Toilets

Sutton Coldfield Town Hall has several fully accessible toilets throughout the venue. If you require urgent access to the toilet because of an impairment / disability you can make this known to staff at any time and they will ensure that you are quickly pointed toward the nearest toilet with discretion and dignity.

Difficulty Accessing Visual/Audible Information

Visual Information

We do not currently have the funding to offer Audio Description unless this is brought in with a visiting show, but we do hope that our charitable fundraising efforts will help make this possible.

Audible Information

We operate a hearing loop in the Main Auditorium/Ballroom.

As with Visual Information, we do not currently have the funding to offer BSL (British Sign Language) performances unless this is brought in with a visiting show, but we do hope that our charitable fundraising efforts will help make this possible.

Relaxed Performances

On our in-house professional Christmas pantomime, we offer both a “Schools Relaxed” and “Public Relaxed” performance – these will clearly stated on the dates for each respective show.

“A relaxed performance, put simply, is a performance that has been amended in such a way as to be sensitive to, and appreciative of, audience members who could otherwise struggle with the intensity of a regular performance. This includes, but is by no means limited to, any individuals on the autistic spectrum, those with learning disabilities and those with sensory and/or communication disorders who may find sitting in a busy, enclosed space distressing.

Commonly what you will find with a relaxed performance, is that the approach and atmosphere is much more casual and laid back. More specifically for instance, the house lights tend to stay up, the sound level lowered and you are of course at liberty to leave the auditorium at any time should you so wish or require. Further to this, on the day of the relaxed performance, there will more often than not, be additional staff on hand to help seating and/or general navigation of the venue if necessary.”

With received shows – either from touring companies or local amateur groups – we cannot guarantee the inclusion of a Relaxed Peformance but where there is to be one, this will be made clear at the time of booking.
